I’m writing to thank Gayla Benefield for her amazingly powerful Op-Ed in Wednesday’s paper, “Libby’s Failure and Solution: The Toxic Substances Control Act.”
As a mother, I feel TSCA’s failure every day as I struggle to protect my children from toxic chemicals in their toys, clothing and other products we use every day. I don’t feel like I should have to conduct extensive research to find out whether my child’s sippy cup contains the harmful chemical BPA, or whether the toys they are playing with contain lead or mercury. Products should be safe for children across the board, period.
