I’ve been in the hair salon business with my mother and sister for over twenty years. When my sister became pregnant, I focused on her ongoing respiratory problems and began researching the chemicals we use every day to color and beautify our clients’ hair. To my surprise, I learned that the FDA does not regulate personal care products such as hair color, and unfortunately many of the chemicals used are not tested for safety. In fact, lots of these chemicals are known to cause a variety of health risks including cancer, etc. Six years ago, I created the first “green” hair salon in Los Angeles, Nori’s Eco Salon, that uses only nontoxic hair colors and products in an environmentally friendly space built using sustainable materials.
