Dear Erin Switalski,
Thanks for contacting us. Hearing from you and other consumers helps us toward our goal of delivering top quality products and services worldwide. I’m sharing your comments with the rest of our Consumer Response Team.
The safety and well-being of the people who use our products is always our highest priority. We have over 700 scientists who are devoted to ensuring that our products and ingredients are safe and in compliance with all regulations prior to marketing.
It’s important to know we do not intentionally add 1,4 dioxane to our products, but it can be present at a trace level in a few of our ingredients. We closely monitor these levels and want to assure you they are well below safe levels noted by regulatory agencies around the globe. And as mentioned before, all ingredients and known trace by-products are thoroughly evaluated for safety prior to marketing. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure the levels of 1,4 dioxane stay well below human safety limits, and meet all appropriate safety regulations around the world including USFDA and Health Canada. We’re confident the levels in our products are safe.
Also important to know, the US state of California’s EPA has established a safe level for 1,4 dioxane to which you could be exposed to every day for a lifetime. Any trace levels of 1,4 dioxane in a laundry product would be well below this safe level. You could do over 2800 loads of laundry in one day, every day, and still be below the safe level. We hope this is reassuring to you.
Sincerely,
Michaela
Tide Team
