Using Your Cell Phone Safely

Cell phones emit potentially dangerous electromagnetic radiation.  The World Health Organization recently classified cell phone radiation as a possible human carcinogen due to studies showing increased brain cancer associated with cell phone use. While this decision was certainly controversial and we wait for more conclusive research to be done to better define the risks, we recommend taking cautionary steps with your cell phone usage now.

We’re not saying you shouldn’t ever use your cell phone—we know how crucial they are to life these days! But there are a few alterations we can make in our phone behavior to reduce our exposure to dangerous radiation.

Tips for Using Your Cell Phone Safely

  • When using your cell phone, opt for a headset instead of holding the phone up to your head.
  • For short and sweet conversations, send a text instead of making a call.
  • Avoid carrying your phone on your body: put it in your purse or bag, or leave it out on your desk.
